Join Dan Awrey (Cornell Law School), author of the book Beyond Banks: Technology, Regulation, and the Future of Money, and Sabihah Mohamed (Chief Executive Officer, Corporation for Deposit Insurance, South Africa and Chair of the IADI Working Group on e-money) for a discussion on digital innovation in money and the role of deposit insurance therein.
They will discuss the increasing importance of non-bank entities in payments, as well as suggestions on how these might be regulated differently from insured deposit-taking institutions. Dan and Sabihah will debate the implications for the role of deposit insurance for these payment products and will explore various scenarios and technical options for such potential coverage.
